All about zoo animalsRed Teeter Tail

Real name: Red Tail Hawk

This is a bird of prey that lives in North America.

It is legally protected by the Migratory Bird Treaty Act.

Some people like to keep and train birds of prey - this is called falconry. It is legally allowed after the bird is over a year old and has left the nest, provided it is not rearing chicks.

The females are a bit heavier than the males.

These birds fly with slow, deep wing movements. They have a hoarse, rasping scream.

They are carnivorous and eat small animals, like rodents. This forms most of their diet.
